Acme Markets Inc., a subsidiary of Albertsons is a supermarket chain operating in about 163 stores covering mainland area in Delaware, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Headquartered in east Whiteland Township, Pennsylvania and established in 1891, the store was first opened in Philadelphia by two Irish immigrants- Samuel Robinson and Robert Crawford. The founders later decided to merge Acme with four Philadelphia grocery stores including the American Grocery Chain and hence the new company was renamed as American Stores Company in 1917. And by 1937, there was a final decision of renaming the company as Acme Markets. However, their aim remained intact in terms of giving their users the best grocery experience according to their expectations. It has a decade long legacy of being the market leaders in the largest grocery retailers in Delaware Valley. In fact, they are an employment house to over 18,000 associates currently.
